CLAHRC (Collaboration in Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care)

Douglas House

Remit of the group

The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) currently supports 13 CLAHRCs across the country. We are a collaboration of academics, clinicians and managers who undertake high quality applied health research focused on the needs of patients and service users, supporting the translation of research evidence into practice in the NHS and social care.

The NIHR CLAHRC East of England is collaboration between the Universities of Cambridge, East Anglia and Hertfordshire and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with a wide range of Eastern Region Health and Social Care Service Providers.

The CLAHRC East of England has a number of themes and is carrying out research projects in the following areas. PPI is a cross-cutting theme.

Each project is required to include PPI/service users in the research process.

Our core strategic principles for PPI within the CLAHRC are for it to be “embedded, comprehensive and active” within the organisation, themes and projects.

The PPI co-ordinating group comprises of academics (linked to the themes of the CLAHRC) and patient and public representatives (Healthwatch, Public Involvement in Research Group, University of Hertfordshire).

The PPI co-ordinating group reviews research studies to ensure they include PPI and provides feedback to studies.  We also look at the PPI presence on the CLAHRC East of England website.  Members of the PPI co-ordinating group also give support to CLAHRC projects and signpost to other PPI resources and support within the East of England.  Members of the PPI co-ordinating group also link into National and regional PPI activities, groups and organisations.

Frequency of meetings

Two to three months.

Who can consult the group?

Researchers within CLAHRC East of England (although we would also be happy to hear from other researchers/service users within the East of England who might be interested in working with the CLAHRC).
