Emma Garavini - Senior Youth Involvement Officer
I bring young people and mental health research together in ways that feel creative and accessible. At McPin, I work with young people aged 13 to 30 across a number of projects spanning social media, therapy and working with schools. I’m always keen to explore new ways to make research feel welcoming, collaborative, relevant, and shaped by young people’s experiences.
I’m particularly interested in research focusing on social media, suicidality/self-harm, therapy and depression/anxiety. I’m always keeping an ear to the ground for finding innovative and meaningful approaches towards doing youth involvement.
My work at McPin involves collaborating with young people, researchers and organisations to work on research projects, develop research bids and to engage young people with being involved in mental health research.

I’m passionate about engaging young people who may not typically see themselves reflected in research and creating involvement opportunities that feel accessible, creative, meaningful and engaging. My interests focus on social media and mental health, suicidality and self-harm, therapy, depression and anxiety.
I’ve co authored work exploring lived experience and youth involvement in mental health research.
I have presented at the BACP conference (2026) and ENMESH conference (2024) alongside young people I have worked with to speak about involving young people and lived experience approaches to research.
Drawing from my own lived experience, I care deeply about making sure youth involvement is welcoming, flexible and encouraging for young people and their experiences.
