John Gibson Senior Service User Researcher
I am a senior peer researcher at McPin where I work across a range of studies that focus primarily on adults living with a diagnosis of severe mental illness or SMI. I became involved with McPin in 2014 as a Lived Experience Advisory Panel member before becoming a service user researcher, and then senior service user researcher. I am the PPI Lead on the ASCEnD bipolar depression study with Newcastle University, as well as for the UKRI Social Health Hub. I’m also the lived experience panel member for the re-approval of Approved Mental Health Professionals in Staffordshire. With a diagnosis of bipolar, I bring over 35 years lived experience to a role that emphasises the importance of lived experience in research.
