What’s the project?
Led by The University of Edinburgh, The Circadian Mental Health Network is a collaboration between researchers, clinicians, charity organisations and people with lived experience. Their goal is to stimulate collaborative research and develop and support a sustainable and inclusive community focused on driving discovery and innovation at the interface of sleep, circadian rhythms and mental health

We are looking for 2 young people with lived experience of mental health issues, and disruptions to their body clock and/or sleep issues.
You would join our existing Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP), with 6 members and a range of ages. The LEAP provides vital input and advice throughout the course of this project, ensuring that the work is relevant, accessible and meaningful for the needs of the public, professionals and the research community. The LEAP has already:
- Helped to put together and share a survey which asks the public to tell us what research on sleep, circadian rhythms and mental health is missing and needs to be addressed.
- Helped analyse and summarise the research questions to go into a second survey for ranking to identify the top 10 research questions on sleep, circadian rhythms and mental health.
Further ways in which the LEAP will be involved in the future include:
- Help put together and share the second survey.
- Assist with engaging with the wider community of people who are impacted by disrupted sleep, circadian rhythms and mental health issues.
- Selecting projects to support with future funding.
- Provide advice and input from the point of view of a person with lived experience into the way that the new network is run.
- Advise researchers that are part of the network – this may involve helping to develop their research studies.
- Help develop new research proposals together with network members or researchers from outside the network.
The LEAP meets roughly four times a year throughout the course of the three year project online via zoom. There will also be some optional tasks to complete by email. There may also be the opportunity to join other projects related to sleep, circadian rhythms and mental health.
