What’s the project?
This project is led by King’s College London, in partnership with PAPYRUS, CB Plus, and Speakers Collective. We are seeking to understand how to prevent self-harm and suicidal thoughts before they start. We would like to hear from young people, parents and carers about when support should begin, what support is most helpful, and how it can be delivered in ways that feel age-appropriate and culturally sensitive.

If you register your interest in taking part, we will first invite you to a short Microsoft Teams call. During this call, we will explain the study, confirm that you are eligible to take part, discuss any access or support needs, and answer any questions you may have.
If you decide to take part following this call, you will be asked to complete an online consent form. We will then invite you to join a small group discussion, either online or in person, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Groups will include other young people or parents and carers and will provide a safe and respectful space for you to share your views at your own pace.
In-person groups will take place at King’s College London or CB Plus in London. Online groups will be held via Microsoft Teams. If you are unable or would prefer not to take part in a group discussion, you may choose to take part in an individual interview instead.
Participation in this study is voluntary, and you should only take part if you want to.
We are keen to hear from:
- Young people aged 16-25 living in the UK who have experienced self-harm and/or suicidal thoughts, and
- Parents or carers living in the UK of a child or young person aged 8-25 who have had these experiences
You will get a £20 voucher as a thank you for taking part. If you attend a session in person, we will reimburse reasonable travel costs (up to the cost of a 1-day London Travelcard) and provide refreshments.
