What’s the project?

On this project, researchers at the University of Roehampton have been working with a group of young advisors here at McPin to create a new form for young people to use during their therapy. This form will help young people decide what they’d like their therapy to be like and how they can communicate this with their therapist. You can read more about the project here.

We’re looking for young people (aged 11-18) to take part in an online interview to give feedback on this new form designed to help young people shape their therapy. The interview will be online (via MS Teams) and will take around 1.5–2 hours. You’ll try out the draft of our form, share your thoughts, and give us feedback.

• Ages 11-18
• We’re looking for young people with or without experience of counselling or mental health difficulties.

You will be reimbursed with a £20 gift card (e.g. Love2Shop) for taking part in the interview.
If you would like any support after completing the interview, you can get in touch with Mick (who leads the research team) at [email protected]. Or if you’d like to speak to somebody not involved in this research, you can get in touch with Yannis (Dean of the School of Psychology at Roehampton University) at [email protected]. We’ll also provide you with a debrief form, which contains details for services who can offer support.

If you’re interested in this opportunity, please sign up via this link (please note if you are aged 11-17 your parent or guardian will need to sign up for you): https://roehamptonpsych.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0PanTwYC7laQFUO

Or email Rachel at [email protected] for more info.

We’ll look at people’s responses on the sign-up form to invite a diverse group of 8-10 young people with different ages, backgrounds, and experiences to be interviewed. This includes both young people who have and haven’t had counselling or mental health challenges.

There’s no deadline, but interviews will be happening throughout June 2025 until we reach the number of interviews needed.
