What’s the project?
Have you ever felt like your experiences of mental distress were misunderstood or unfairly dismissed by other people? These experiences are referred to a “knowledge injustices” and the research team from the University of Birmingham want to hear about your experiences of them. The research team are interested in exploring your experiences of being dismissed, silenced or excluded as an agent due to prejudice.
KIWI is part of project EPIC (Epistemic Injustice in Healthcare) which is a larger body of work that is focused on addressing and improving issues around epistemic injustice in healthcare. The research team are looking for 15-20 young people to take part in a confidential interview carried out either in person at the University of Birmingham, a community venue or online. You will be asked questions about your weekly activities and who you talk to about your mental health. These interviews will last about 90 minutes and all of your information will be anonymised and stored securely.
The research team are looking for young people:
- Aged 18-25
- Who have had unusual or distressing thoughts, experiences and beliefs that other people don’t share or struggle to understand
- Who have been referred to mental health service for first-episode psychosis or at-risk mental states (within the last 3 years)
- Must be based in the UK
You will be offered a £75 voucher as a thank you for taking part in the research.
