What’s the project?

In this project, researchers from King’s College London aim to create a set of questions which can be answered on your smartphone as you go about your usual activities. This questionnaire is being developed to track young people’s daily experiences in order to better understand the factors linked to depression risk and improve the understanding of the development of depression in young people.

The project has received ethical approval from King’s College London (HR-25/26-48447) and is led by Dr Josefien Breedvelt.

The research team are looking for 10-15 young people in total, aged 16-25 years living in the UK without a current or past depression diagnosis, and who are not currently receiving any treatment for depression (e.g., psychological therapy or antidepressant medication).

If interested, you will be asked to complete a brief expression of interest survey, which will ask some general details such as age and gender, and some questions about how you have felt in the past 2 weeks. If eligible, you will be contacted via email and invited to a one-hour interview online. The interview will be scheduled at a time that works for you and will be recorded so that the research team can transcribe the conversation and refer back to it. Once the conversation is transcribed, the actual recording will be deleted. All transcripts will be anonymous and none of the data you provide will be traced back to you.

To be eligible, you:

  • are aged 16-25 years,
  • have no symptoms of depression OR some mild symptoms of depression
  • have no current or past diagnosis of depression,
  • are not currently receiving any treatment for depression (e.g., psychotherapy or antidepressant medication)
  • have a stable internet connection for the interview,
  • live in the UK.

You will receive a £20 voucher as a ‘thank you’ for your time and the flexibility to schedule the interview at a time that works for you. The interview will be online.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete a brief expression of interest by accessing this link, or if you would like to discuss this opportunity in more detail, please email Larisa, at [email protected].

Please apply by 5pm on 29th March. However, please note that we’re looking for 10-15 young people. Should the places fill before then, the team will not be able to accept any new participants. Therefore, it is encouraged that you to apply as soon as possible if you are interested.
