Young People 11-18

Try out a questionnaire looking at young people’s counselling processes to shape the questionnaire and improve research for young people

Therapy and counselling • Young people

What’s the project?

This doctoral research project aims to develop a questionnaire to measure young people’s counselling processes under the guidance of Professor Mick Cooper and Dr. Carla Startin at Roehampton University. The project has received ethics committee approval from the University of Roehampton.

About 30-40 questionnaire items were created, and feedback from professionals working therapeutically with young people has already been received.

In the next stage of the research, the team are requesting young people to try the questionnaire and share their thoughts to assess whether the items are easy to understand and age-appropriate.

The final questionnaire will improve counselling and counselling research for young people in the future.

Once the team receive your expression of interest to take part, they will arrange an online Microsoft Teams meeting with you at a time that suits you and your parent or carer.

At the beginning of the meeting, the parent/carer will give consent for the young person to participate in the study, followed by the young person’s assent. After expressing interest, the research team will email you the parent and young-person information sheets and the consent form.

You will then complete an online survey of about 30-40 questions related to your counselling experiences whilst saying your thoughts aloud, and the interview will be audio-recorded. This would take about 60-90 minutes.

After the interview, a £20 One4all Multi-Store Gift Card will be emailed to you. The team need about 6-10 young people to participate in the study.
