What’s the project?

This research project is exploring a “Reflective Companion”: a conversational agent (chatbot) designed to support young people to reflect on their daily social life, emotions and thoughts as part of their social prescribing journey.

Social prescribing involves taking part in non-clinical, community-based activities to support mental health and wellbeing. This study aims to understand whether a conversational agent could help young people reflect on these experiences, and how the tool could be improved.

We are looking for around 30 young people to take part in online user testing session (1 hour).

You will be asked to:

  • Complete a short screening questionnaire (5 mins)
  • Use web-based conversational agent prototypes (5-10 mins)
  • Complete short questionnaires to rate the agent (5-10 mins)
  • Take part in a short interview to share your experience (30 mins)

The session will be audio-recorded with your consent.

You need to:

  • Be aged 16–25
  • Have experience of mental health difficulties
  • Have taken part in social/community activities to support your mental health
  • Be able to attend a 1-hour online session
  • Have access to a device and stable internet connection

Please note: the conversational agent is a research prototype. It is not a therapist, clinical service or emergency support service, and should not be used in a crisis.

You will receive a £10 online shopping voucher if you complete the user testing session.

A researcher will be present throughout the session, and you can pause or stop at any time. If anything feels upsetting, support resource will be provided, and a clinician is available if needed.
