Remit of the group

Our applied health research is undertaken under five themes one of which is our Empowering Mental Health Service Users.  This theme will develop, test and disseminate ways to deliver better care and evaluation tools in collaboration with service users, carers and clinicians. The aim is to co-design innovative care pathways for mental health patients that are not based on acute medicine models.

Initial projects include:

  • developing ways of supporting young people with concurrent mental & physical health problems
  • assisting young people in the self-management of the problems they experience with psychosis
  • improving carers’ experiences and involvement with severe mental illness
  • improving care of people with memory problems in Black African and Caribbean groups

We are in the process of recruiting service users and carers to be part of the various projects under this theme

Frequency of meetings

Three times a year though there will be activity between meetings

Who can consult the group?

Main focus will be CLAHRC researchers supported by NIHR funding. There will be further working and steering groups set up with a focus on mental health
