Remit of the group
The NCMH Advisory Committee provides expert advice, guidance and support to the Centre from the perspective of the service user and user support services. In particular, the Committee is consulted in relation to two main (overlapping) areas: The NCMH volunteer cohort (research participants with lived experience of mental health issues) and Public Involvement and Engagement. The term ‘public’ refers to those outside the scientific community. We have a specific interest in engaging with and/or involving the following:
- people who use or have used healthcare services
- carers and family members
- organisations representing patients, carers and community groups
- other members of the general public
Terms of Reference:
The Advisory Committee is responsible for:
- advising the NCMH on how to reach, communicate and engage with the public
- advising and providing feedback relating to the development and delivery of the NCMH engagement strategy and activities
- promoting research, in particular NCMH and participation in the NCMH volunteer cohort
- advising on aspects of the NCMH volunteer cohort research protocol
- providing patient and public perspective on the work of the NCMH.
The NCMH Advisory Committee meets biannually and is chaired by the Director of the NCMH. In addition to the biannual meetings, NCMH liaises with NCMH Advisory Committee members as required at other time points and keeps members informed of NCMH progress.
Frequency of meetings
Twice yearly.
